Photo Gallery: Rush Valley

Rush Valley is the original name for what today is known as Rushland. It is in the heart of Bucks County where Neshaminy Creek meets Mill Creek on its way to the Delaware River. Pennsylvania impressionist and PAFA teacher Roy Nuse used to live there and paint it. I met him in his studio in the late '60s when I was about nine.

"Rushland" sounds more like the hometown of Fed Ex than what it really is. The only thing that rushes there would be the roaring quarry trucks or pumped-up drivers that squeal through the winding country roads on late summer nights or early work days. Most of the time however, it's a very tranquil setting, probably like a lot of rural towns in America. If you sit quietly, you can hear the flow of the creeks and listen to the sound of the birds and the bugs that live in the fields and old trees. It was my home growing up and I love to visit it often. Like the rest of Bucks County, we have new homes growing where we used to have corn and soybean, but it has changed less than most. Scroll down to see a sampling.
