I guess it had something to do with the popularity of Andrew Wyeth in my youth or perhaps simply
nostalgia for slower times, but I have often been drawn to rotting wood and decaying scenes of
yesteryear. My earlier subjects had an almost ashcan style with browns and blacks. Of course, if
you keep shooting rocks, trees, fences and water in winter, that's bound to happen. I try to find
the color and special light now. Regardless of the reason for its attraction, Bucks County has been
an inspiration for me and in addition to the Colonial history I've come to respect its artistic heritage
and enduring ties to the land.
Now that "progress" has moved in with ego-driven tributes to anonymous kings and queens many of
these tranquil scenes are disappearing. The new neighbors complain about things that have been here
for decades and most likely were what drew them here in the first place. Some of these photos could
not be taken today for the simple fact that the subjects aren't around anymore. Scroll down to see a
sampling of these images.
